On a bright sunny Sunday morning, and unable to field a full boys side, the Teign girls stepped in the rescue and made up the numbers and enabled Teigns to field a mixed U14s team in the area boys round robin tournament.

The girls, Charlotte Reeves, Ellie Dixey, Mollie Robinson and Saoirse Butterfield proved that anything the boys can do the girls can do just as well. All the girls displayed courage when tackling against their male counterparts, who were in most cases were bigger and physically stronger than themselves.

Teign were strong in midfield with Tom Brooks causing problems for the opponents, breaking down attacking maneuvers on several occasions and releasing Will Boyne and 11 year old Owen Martin to make strong powerful attacking play out on the Teign wings.

Jono Fell and Rowan Weyer Brown held strong in defence despite the relentless attacks by the opposition. Combining well together they were able to clear the ball from their own circle and into the midfield .

Eleven year old Charlie Judge in the Teign goal was outstanding throughout and although Teigns lost all their games, Judge restricted the deficits with numerous fine saves.

Player of the day was awarded to Mollie Robinson who was outstanding in defense.

Playing together as a team for the first team against all boy teams, Teigns should be very proud of their achievements. Not one of the them let their heads drop when falling behind and as a team they battled to the final whistle showing real TEIGN spirit.

Junior training takes place at Teignmouth Community College on a Monday evening. 5.45pm to 6.45pm Yrs 1 to 5 and then 7.00pm to 8.00pm for Yrs 6 to 9. New comers are very welcome
